Look, we're not gonna pretend this place popped up overnight. Back in 1923, what you see now was actually a private residence for the Quinthorix family - shipping magnates who had a thing for over-the-top craftsmanship and didn't believe in cutting corners.
The building sat there for decades, watching Vancouver grow up around it. Fast forward to 2015, and here we are - we've kept the soul but added all the creature comforts you'd expect from a proper luxury stay.
We've had our share of plot twists over the years. Here's the highlight reel.
Originally built as the Quinthorix family mansion. They really went all-out with imported marble and hand-carved woodwork.
Converted into a cultural center for the arts. The ballroom hosted some pretty wild jazz nights, from what we've heard.
Major restoration project begins. We're talking three years of careful work to bring back the original charm while modernizing everything.
Tandrel Quinthorix Hotel officially opens its doors. We've been welcoming guests who appreciate the finer things ever since.
Running a place like this takes vision, guts, and honestly, a bit of healthy obsession with getting the details right.
Founder & Creative Director
Eleanor's the one who saw past the crumbling plaster and water damage back in 2015. She spent fifteen years in hospitality across Europe before coming back to Vancouver with this crazy idea. Her grandmother actually worked in the original Quinthorix household, so there's a personal connection that runs deep. She's got this sixth sense for design - walks into a room and just knows what it needs.
General Manager
Marcus keeps this ship running smooth. He's got a background in hospitality management from Switzerland and somehow manages to remember every regular guest's coffee order. Been with us since day one, and there's not much that happens here without him knowing about it. His philosophy? "Luxury shouldn't feel stuffy" - and you'll see that reflected in how our team treats guests.
Hand-carved mahogany that took craftsmen nearly two years to complete. Every newel post tells a different story from maritime history.
Original 1920s chandeliers still hang here - we had them restored piece by piece. The floor's seen everything from fox trots to board meetings.
We're not chasing whatever's hot on Instagram. This place has character that's been earned over a century, and we respect that.
From the thread count to the water pressure to how we fold your towels - yeah, we're particular about this stuff.
We work with Vancouver artisans, source from BC suppliers, and actually care about being good neighbors in this city.
Not the robotic "how may I help you" stuff. We're talking genuine warmth from people who actually want you to have a great stay.
"It's not about being fancy for the sake of it. It's about creating a space where people feel like the best version of themselves."
- Eleanor Tandrel
We've told you our story - now it's time to write yours here. Come see what a century of history feels like when it's done right.
